Install - Ontap 8.0 7-Mode Simulator

With the new certification exam for Ontap 8 available, I decided to install the simulator and start working on my certification.

Hopefully I will be able to take the newer exam before end of January:

Data ONTAP 8.0 7-Mode Administrator (NS0-154)

I don't think it is worth it anymore to invest in the older exams: NSo-153 and 163.

I will be installing a couple of simulators using VMware Workstation 7.1.3.

Here are the links for the Netapp downloads (I think you will need a valid Now account):

Once the simulator is downloaded you can unzip it. You should have something like:

C:\vsim-1\

Once decompressed you can open the vmx file with VMware Workstation and start booting.

You will need to interrupt the boot process to access the boot menu when prompted for CTRL+C

For some reason the simulator requires the disks to be initialize (option 4).

The VM will reboot automatically and will ask for confirmation:

Once this is done you will be prompted for configuration information starting with the host name.
